What is Immune System?
The system may be a master defense system with various biological structures and processes during a body that protects against disease. To work perfectly, a system must recognize a good sort of factor, referred to as pathogens, from viruses to parasitic worms, and distinguish them from the organism’s healthy tissue. In many species, there are two main subsystems of the immune system: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. Both subsystems use humoral immunity and cell-mediated immunity to perform their roles. In humans, the blood-brain barrier, blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier, and related fluid–brain barriers separate the external immune system from the neuroimmune system, which defends the brain.
Sometimes, an immunodeficiency disease can be so mild that a person may not be aware of it for years. Other times, the disease is more severe and causes a person to experience frequent infections during their life.
we look at the signs of a weak immune system and give some steps that people can take to improve their chances of staying healthy.
Parts of the immune system
The main parts of the immune system are.
- white blood cells
- complement system
- lymphatic system
- bone marrow
White blood cells, antibodies, and other components, including organs and lymph nodes, structure the body’s system . Many diseases can decrease the immune system and make a person immunocompromised. These immunodeficiency disorders, which range from mild to severe, can be started from birth or may occur as a result of environmental circumstances. They include:
- HIV(Human immunodeficiency virus)
- several types of cancer
- viral hepatitis
Symptoms of a weak immune system
A person with a weak immune system is possible to get infections more frequently than most other people, and these illnesses might be more difficult or harder to treat.
These people may also see themselves dealing with an infection that a person with a stronger immune system would not get.
- skin infections
Other disorders like:
- autoimmune disorders
- inflammation of the internal organs
- blood disorders or abnormalities, such as anemia
- digestive issues, including loss of appetite, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping
- growth and developmental delays in infants and children
How to improve your immune system?
Follow a doctor’s advice on vaccines
Doctors generally suggest that most people stay up to date with their vaccinations.
However, they may suggest a person with a weak or compromised immune system to delay or not receive certain shots.
If a short-term illness or a medication is responsible for the weak immune system, the person may be ready to have the vaccine once the disease has resolved or they have ended the treatment.
Stress can decrease the immune system further and make a person more susceptible to disease.
Some research shows that a person who is under extreme stress is more likely to get ill.
People with a weak immune system should take steps to control their stress. Habits that may decrease and manage stress include: yoga, meditation, massages, spending time friends and family
Get enough sleep
According to the National Sleep Foundation, Lack of sleep has a similar effect on the body’s immune system as stress. Lack of sleep disturbs the normal production of white blood cells, a critical component of the body’s immune system.
According to the CDC, adults should aim for at least 7 hours of sleep per day, while newborns and children need between 8 and 17 hours of sleep depending on their age.
Eat a healthful diet
Eating a healthy, balanced diet can improve a person’s overall well-being.
For people with a low immune system, doctors usually recommend a diet that is rich in vegetables and fruit, which will provide lots of nutrients.
If an individual is extremely immunocompromised, for instance, because they’re undergoing cancer surgery, a doctor may suggest that they take extra steps to avoid foodborne diseases.
These may include:
- washing all fruits and vegetables before peeling them avoiding undercooked meats, fish, and eggs.
- refrigerating food promptly.
- choosing pasteurized juices and dairy products over unpasteurized products.
Daily exercise keeps the body fit. In addition to strengthening the body, exercise causes the body to release endorphins that decrease stress levels. However, those with low immune systems should be careful not to push themselves too hard as this can weaken the immune system further.
Therefore, people with a low immune system may prefer to avoid exercising:
Consider taking supplements
It is very important that in our body enough amount of vitamins and minerals affect the immune system. For Example, a person who has vitamin C deficiency can have a week immune system.
- vitamin A
- vitamin D
- vitamin E
- folic acid
Avoid drinking and smoking
Drinking and smoking can affect your immune system very badly.
The person who regularly does smoking and drinking possibly the immune system is very low these kinds of people get ill very easily and take more time to recover than other people who have a good immune system.
